Mother's Day

This mother's day my boys made paintings and collages with their grandmother for me. Mordecai dictated messages that his grandma wrote on the back of them. One covered with red finger paint with bright feathers and glitter glued to the front read:

"Happy Birthday Mama. This is the flower you and I shared when I was born."

It makes me weepy writing it now. He also threw me a party. This involved me closing my eyes and he and Choco piling my gifts on my lap. Everything came from there room. A giant fabric butterfly with a little rubber fish attached to the underbelly. A set of Spanish flashcards cleverly concealed between two pieces of Tupperware. Mordecai's birthday card from his grandparents - still with a crisp $20 in it, to which he replied - "Mama, I gave you money!" with utter joy and surprise. I also received several crayons sandwiched inside a Scooby Doo Mysteries book.

I haven't written anything down in so long and I'm working towards fitting it in again. In pains me to think of the magic I've failed to keep here. Solomon is at the most precious of ages. Two months ago his vocabulary exploded and suddenly you can have a full and meaningful conversation with the boy. When he's mad he stomps his feet and crosses his arms across his little chest and says "Nawt Fay-wer!" At night when I rock his hefty little body in my arms, ever conscious that he will soon be too large he whispers - I yuv you Mama. He also has developed an impressive knack for ruffling his brothers feathers. Previously the boy who no one could upset, Mordecai can be sent into an absolute hysterical frenzy if his little brother tells him that actually he is the black knight. Mordecai will argue imaginary issues to no end and Solomon continues these arguments with nothing short of thrilled fascination on his little gnome face.

I'm still working like crazy now. Did I say I learned to decorate cakes? Ok, I know I'm such a dork but I took three courses and now I could effing go into business. I'm serious. Along the dork lines my obsession with rollerskating has not subsided. Neither has my obsession with rollerderby, my magazine or coloring. Oh, did I not mention? Mordecai and I have a like hobby now - we are coloring maniacs. Have you tried those new twist up crayons? They are like plastic pencils only you twist up lovely smooth sailing crayons that I could go on and on about...
