Another first step

There is this great kid's musician named Raffi who has been around forever and from a crawling age Cai has been in love with him. He sings this sweet lullaby kind of song called "I wonder if I'm growing" and Jaya always skips past it on the CD 'Cause it's so sad'. The truth is, it is a little melancholy, only because it's about kids growing up and makes us old moms and dads realize how fast it's all going. The song sounded even sweeter and sadder when Cai began to sing along - "I wonder if I'm growing- My mom says yes I'm growing, but it's hard for me to see." One of the lyrics is "Hey, I can reach the tap now for the very first time today and I wonder if I'm growing...". I've never skipped the song ahead myself, but more than once it's given me an ache. Well, anyway, today Cai washed his hands in the sink all by himself - yes, for the very first time. He was so excited and came out to show me - hands dripping and indeed smelling like soap, then he lead me to the bathroom to witness the unflushed toilet, little turtle stool sitting in a puddle of water and the handtowel on the floor slowly soaking up the mess. Sometimes this is all too good to be true, and sometimes it's just too much for a girl to take.
