My good friend Karin gave the boys a new CD, a compilation of famous songs by famous people. The first is a haunting rendition of Rainbow Connection by Sarah McLachlan. It happens to be a song I’ve never paid much attention to, but is two of my closest friends favorite songs. Anyway, Cai has become quite attached to it. He gets hooked on certain songs. For awhile it was Roxanne by the Police which he can sing through, but thinks is called ‘Rockstar’. Another is Baa, Baa Black Sheep which he thinks goes, “Baa baa black sheep have you any wolves?”
Anyway, on our way up to the villa last week he was requesting the song for the eighyethe time and then asked me what it was called. I said Rainbow Connection and not surprisingly he corrected me, he’s a big know-it-all lately. “No Mama, it’s not called Wainbowl Connecshun, it’s called Chasing Dwagons.” We argued for awhile but he finally won. I wish someone had told my brother this a long time ago, we could’ve skipped a lot of the icky parts.
Cai’s new thing is compliments. He walks up to the waiter at the restaurant and says, “I yike your shoes”. He is doling out compliments to everyone, generally on things like shirts and sunglasses. But I got a really good one yesterday. He woke up from his nap and said, “Mama I yuv yowa laugh. It’s so nice. Sometimes I dweam about it.” Now can you beat that? I sure can’t.
